What story do you want to tell?

What story do you want to tell?

While reading Better Decisions, Fewer Regrets: 5 Questions to Help You Determine Your Next Move by Andy Stanley, I came across this question.  As I consider this question, my focus shifted from making decisions to thinking about my story as a wife, mother, and therapist.

The story I want to tell and want told about me, especially by my son, is that I made a positive impact on the lives of those around me. The people most impacted by my life story are my husband and son. I want to model kindness, compassion, positive self care, and a love of helping others.

So, what does that mean for you?

Life is hard.  Everyone’e life has some sort of obstacle that is being faced.  I can’t speak for men and won’t pretend that their lives are easier as I would only be assuming. But I’m pretty familiar with some struggles faced by women in various life stages. The transition I’ve found most difficult in my own life was becoming a mother.  There was a time when I didn’t know if motherhood would ever be part of my story.  Then when the transition arrived, I had no idea what to do with the loss of career as I had chosen to be a full time stay at home mom.  Babies cry a lot and not always because they are hungry or need a fresh diaper. (What did he need? How do I figure this out? Will I ever sleep again?)

Where are you on this journey called life and how could therapy be beneficial for you?

As a therapist, I want to help you write your story of hope and victory where you face the truth about the past and create a better way of living for you and your family. You may be wondering how that would work. We begin by you telling where you are now and how you got here.  Who are the important characters in your story and how have your interactions with them shaped where you are today?  I ask lots of questions and am curious about you and your life experiences.

Not sure what story you want to tell or how to get there?

Let’s chat and see if I can help.
